This well-paced itinerary takes you through three of the most iconic destinations in Northern Tanzania — offering maximum wildlife viewing and unforgettable landscapes in just a few days.

Your journey begins at the shimmering shores of Lake Manyara, where flocks of vivid pink flamingos wade through the alkaline shallows, and tree-climbing lions are known to lounge on low-hanging branches. Next, you’ll venture into the legendary Serengeti National Park, where endless savannahs host massive herds of wildebeest and zebras, along with Africa’s top predators.

The adventure continues with a descent into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to an astonishing density of wildlife. Here, you'll have the rare opportunity to spot all of Africa’s Big Five — Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Rhino, and Lion — along with hundreds of other species.

This tour offers the perfect balance of value and comfort. You'll stay in hand-picked lodges and tented camps located near Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro, as well as inside the heart of the Serengeti. Accompanied by an experienced and knowledgeable driver-guide, you’ll gain fascinating insights into the animals, ecosystems, and cultures that make this region so unique.

"Duma" Safari Itinerary

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of PK Adventure and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.

Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

Your adventure begins bright and early. After breakfast (around 7:30 AM), your safari guide will arrive at your hotel and inform the receptionist of their arrival. Once you’ve met your guide and loaded up the vehicle, you’ll begin your scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park — arriving by 10:00 AM for your first game drive.

Lake Manyara is a lush, green oasis, uniquely shaped by underground water streams that feed the park’s forests and wetlands. This vibrant ecosystem supports a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, and Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions. The park is also a paradise for bird lovers — expect to see storks, pelicans, and of course, flocks of vivid pink flamingos wading in the lake’s shallows.

Around midday, you’ll stop at the Maji Moto hot springs, a peaceful and picturesque spot where your driver will provide you with a personal lunchbox picnic. After a relaxing break, your safari continues with more wildlife viewing and exploration of the park’s diverse habitats.

By evening, you’ll head back to your lodge or camp to unwind and enjoy dinner, resting up for tomorrow’s journey into the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater.

To make the most of this extraordinary day, it’s best to leave the hotel as early as possible — many animals in Ngorongoro are most active in the cool morning hours. You’ll have the option of enjoying breakfast at your lodge or taking it as a packed meal to eat on the road.

At 6:30 AM, your safari guide will pick you up and begin the journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After about an hour of scenic driving, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural amphitheater formed by an ancient volcano and now one of the richest wildlife habitats in the world.

Ngorongoro is famous for having the highest density of wildlife per square kilometer in Africa. Here, you may encounter elephants, buffaloes, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and — for the lucky — the rare and endangered black rhinoceros. Small predators such as servals and caracals also call the crater home, though they are more elusive.

Around midday, your guide will bring you to a lakeside picnic spot, where you’ll enjoy your lunchboxes with views of the surrounding wildlife. Be mindful of cheeky birds like kites, which are known to try and snatch unattended food!

After lunch, the game drive continues until early afternoon, when you’ll begin your scenic transfer to Serengeti National Park.

En route, you’ll have the opportunity to stop at the Grzimek Memorial, honoring German conservationists Bernhard and Michael Grzimek, whose groundbreaking work helped preserve Tanzania’s Northern Circuit. Their story is beautifully told in the book Serengeti Shall Not Die — a must-read for wildlife enthusiasts.

By evening, you’ll arrive at your lodge or camp in the heart of the Serengeti, where a delicious dinner and the magic of the African savannah under the stars await you.

Today, you will journey into the world’s most iconic safari destination: the Serengeti National Park. As one of the largest and most celebrated wildlife reserves in Africa, the Serengeti is home to an extraordinary concentration of animals and offers some of the best game viewing on the continent.

In the vast, golden plains of the Serengeti, you are almost guaranteed to spot lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and multiple species of antelopes. With a bit of luck and the sharp eyes of your expert guide, you may also encounter elusive predators such as cheetahs, leopards, and serval cats — all thriving in this untamed wilderness.

Your safari will focus on the central Serengeti, particularly the Seronera Valley, a region known for its year-round abundance of wildlife. The area is nourished by the Seronera River, attracting animals throughout the day and making it a prime location for predator-prey interactions.

The Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its ecological significance, its high density of game, and the legendary Great Migration, when over a million wildebeests and zebras thunder across the plains in search of greener pastures.

This remarkable landscape inspired the setting for Disney’s The Lion King, but nothing compares to experiencing the real Serengeti — wild, raw, and breathtakingly beautiful.

Throughout the day, your guide will find scenic spots to stop for meals and rest, ensuring a comfortable and enriching experience. As the sun begins to set over the endless plains, you’ll return to your lodge or camp, full of stories and sightings from a day in Africa’s most legendary park.

Your adventure continues this morning in the heart of the Serengeti — the Seronera Valley. This vast and vibrant ecosystem is teeming with life, and even after a full day of exploring yesterday, there’s still much more to discover. With its ever-changing scenery and incredible wildlife density, Seronera offers new sights around every corner.

Your guide will take you through new areas of the central Serengeti, seeking out wildlife you may not have seen yet — perhaps a pride of lions lounging under an acacia tree, a cheetah scanning the plains from a termite mound, or a family of elephants meandering through the grasslands.

Around midday, you’ll stop for lunch in the bush, enjoying your meal surrounded by the beauty and sounds of the African savannah.

After lunch, your journey back to Arusha begins. As you drive through the park, take in the last glimpses of the Serengeti’s sweeping plains — a perfect moment to reflect on your safari experience.

You’ll arrive at your hotel in Arusha by evening, where you can relax and unwind after an unforgettable journey through Tanzania’s premier national parks.

Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.

Note: Hotel check-out is at 10:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out before your evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay for an extra fee. Let your manager know in advance if you need a late check-out.

Please Note:

  • By default our tours include shared accommodation in twin/double rooms, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Single supplement is available upon request. Please refer to the program to see your accommodation arrangements
  • Moshi and Arusha-based accommodations usually include breakfast only, unless requested and agreed otherwise. Please refer to the program to see your meal plans on each night
  • Most safari lodges usually do not include tea, coffee, soft and alcoholic drinks not to have you overpay for beverages you don’t need. You will be able to order and pay for drinks at the hotels’ restaurants
  • Tented lodges are the most common type of accommodation in savannah. Many of them work on solar energy. This sometimes means bucket showers, limited wi-fi and no hair dryers, all in an effort to reduce environmental impact. We encourage you to do some basic research on the accommodations in your program to ensure the safari matches your travel style
